Objective of Works

• Overall Objective: To enhance the protection and sustainable use of water resources to safeguard agricultural production and the livelihoods of people in the project area from the threats of saltwater intrusion caused by climate change, sea-level rise, and excessive exploitation of the Mekong River upstream.
• Specific Objectives:
• Control tidal surges and respond to sea-level rise; to control salinity and drainage for 204,270 hectares of natural land in 9 districts/cities of Ben Tre province
• Proactively manage water intake, drainage, take alluvial, deacidification, alkaline washing to serve agricultural production combined with aquaculture for approximately 110,442 hectares of agricultural land out of a total of 137,224 hectares in Ben Tre province, promoting diversified crop and livestock production. Water supply for production and domestic use for 207,275 households.
• Improve water quality; create a favorable distribution of population and combine waterway and road transportation, forming a continuous network of water and land transportation in the region
• Establish and strengthen a comprehensive surface water resource management system for Ben Tre province.

Content and scale of construction investment:

• Construction of 8 sluices and 1 pumping station: (i) 5 sluices in northern Ben Tre: An Hoa, Thu Cuu, Ben Tre, Tan Phu, Ben Ro; (ii) 3 sluices in southern Ben Tre: Cai Quao, Vam Nuoc Trong (Mo Cay Bac), Vam Thom (Mo Cay Nam); (iii) 1 electrical pumping station at Tan Phu.
• Installation of 56 monitoring stations to automatically measure water level and salinity.

• Pumping station: Vertical transfer pump, placed on the riverside on both sides of the sluice, flow rate of 20m³/s, each side has 3 machines and a waiting area;

• Crest elevation: -4.00m

AN HOA SLUICE

• Sluice width B = (4×30) = 120m; 2 locks (2×12)m; Fish path (2×1.5)m

THU CUU SLUICE

• Sluice width B = (3×30) = 90m; Fish path (2×1.5) m

VAM NUOC TRONG SLUICE
